چکیده

This study combines detailed geologic mapping, tephrochronology, U-Pb zircon dating, and published drill core data to evaluate the time transgressive 3-dimensional (thus 4-dimensional) structure evolution of two volcanoes on Hachijo-jima juvenile Izu-Bonin intra oceanic arc. The regional Ata-Torihama tephra (Ata-Th; 0.24 Ma) Kikai-Tozurahara (K-Tz; 0.095 from Kyushu are intercalated within voluminous proximal volcanic products. silicic tuff cover some supra-subduction zone ophiolites, that formed in a nascent arc setting, may be ancient analogs derived adjacent but mature succession comprises submarine basement, marine volcaniclastic rocks, terrestrial with tholeiitic basalt exotic calc-alkaline layers. undissected Hachijo-Fuji stratovolcano (tholeiitic basalt) overlies volcaniclastics abutting northwestern paleo sea cliffs older dissected volcano, Mihara-yama. Newly-described folding normal faulting overlying rocks record NW-SE shortening associated collision Honshu arc, analogous NNE-SSW observed for Troodos ophiolite. proto volcano emerged above >0.24 Ma, this date can applied as molecular biological calibration organisms island.

Petrology and Geochemistry of Boninite Series Volcanic Rocks, Chichi-jima, Bonin Islands, Japan

An Eocene submarine boninite series volcanic center is exposed on the island of Chichi-jima, Bonin Islands, Japan. Five rock types, boninite, bronzite andesite, dacite, quartz dacite, and rhyolite, were distinguished within the boninite volcanic sequence on the basis of petrographic and geochemical observations. Boninite lavas contain high magnesium, nickel, and chromium contents indicative of ...

Across-arc geochemical trends in the Izu-Bonin arc: Contributions from the subducting slab

[1] Abstract: We propose that across-arc differences in the geochemistry of Izu-Bonin arc magmas are controlled by the addition of fertile-slab fluids to depleted mantle at the volcanic front, and residual-slab fluids to fertile mantle in the back arc without slab melting or contemporaneous back arc spreading. The arc consists of a volcanic front, an extensional zone, and seamount chains (the W...

Early stages in the evolution of Izu–Bonin arc volcanism: New age, chemical, and isotopic constraints

A remarkable record of early arc volcanism in the Izu–Bonin–Mariana (IBM) arc is exposed in and around the Bonin Islands, an uplifted segment of the IBM forearc. New Ar/Ar dating results imply that the boninitic volcanism on Chichijima Island occurred in a brief period during Eocene time, between 46–48 Ma. A slightly younger volcanic succession is identified along the Bonin Ridge, including 44....

Fukutoku-oka-no-ba Volcano: A new perspective on the Alkalic Volcano Province in the Izu±Bonin ± Mariana arc

Pumice samples from Fukutoku-oka-no-ba in the Izu±Bonin ± Mariana (IBM) arc were analysed for 40 trace elements and Sr, Nd, and Pb isotopic compositions. These samples are shoshonites (59.4±61.8 wt% SiO2), characterized by high contents of K2O (3.74±4.64 wt%), Ba (1274±1540 p.p.m.), Rb (91±105 p.p.m.), and light rare earth elements. The characteristics of alkali-element enrichment are similar t...

Frequency-dependent shear wave splitting beneath the Japan and Izu-Bonin subduction zones

Despite its importance for ourunderstandingof physical processes associatedwith subduction, the geometry of mantle flow in subduction zones remains poorly understood, particularly in the mantle wedge above subducting slabs. Constraints onmantle flowanddeformation canbeobtainedbymeasurements of shearwave splitting, a valuable tool used to characterize the geometry and strength of seismic anisotr...
